Conditions of Haulage
Purple Thistle Transport are a member of the RHA and we work under their conditions; which protect both us as a haulier and you as a customer. All Haulage that we undertake on your behalf is carried out subject to RHA Conditions of Carriage 2024 Edition; unless otherwise agreed with us in writing.
The Road Haulage Association (RHA) Conditions are the recognised industry standard 'Conditions of Carriage' for professional UK hauliers and can only legally be used by members of the association.
We are obligated to inform all customers that Purple Thistle Transport is a Member of the Road Haulage Association (RHA). All carryings are handled by us, subject to the RHA Conditions of Carriage 2024 Edition and a copy of these Conditions is available on request.
Insurance
As standard we operate under RHA terms and conditions which insures the load up to £1300 per tonne, this is conventional across the haulage industry. However some goods you wish for us to transport may be over this value/weight and therefore they would not be fully covered by ourselves under these conditions. If your company does not have the relevant insurances in place to cover your goods to full value during transport, we can offer to insure them up to £50,000 per load under our 'all risk' policy. To action this we require written confirmation in advance.
Cover also includes Loading & Unloading via our Vehicle Mounted Cranes, under the same terms as above.

Goods in Transit -
RHA £1300 per tonne
All Risk £50,000 per load
Public Liability -
£5 million
Employers Liability -
£10 million
Payment Terms
Default payment terms are 7 days from date of invoice.
Terms can be extended to a maximum of 30 days from date of invoice, this must be mutually agreed between us the haulage provider and you as the customer in advance of transport being undertaken.
Failure to pay within the agreed payment term may result in late payment fees being applied.
A fee of Statutory Interest 8% + Bank of England Base Rate may be applied to all outstanding balances. The fee is calculated daily from the day after the invoice due date until payment is received in full.
Surcharges & Fees
Cancellation Fee –
May be applied when haulage services are cancelled with insufficient notice.
Return Load Fee –
May be applied when goods are rejected by the customer at delivery and need returning to collection site or another location.
Wasted Journey Fee –
May be applied if:
- Goods are not ready for collection at the agreed time.
- Goods are greater in dimension and/or weight of the agreed load.
- Access to the site is restricted for reasons out of our control.
- The loading and unloading facilities are not sufficient for the safe handling of the goods.
